We headed down on a Thursday evening, as I left work a little earlier in the afternoon. The drive took us about six hours but traffic was pretty good in the evening. We arrived around 9 PM, in time to catch the end of the Ole Miss baseball game at the Hangout!
While we were down there, we ate copious amounts of seafood (probably a bit too much for my liking, I like seafood, but don't always opt for fish/seafood when I eat out), laid out on the beautiful beaches and even sneaked in a little shopping at an awesome outlet mall; oh and of course, enjoyed all the wedding festivities!
We headed back on Monday morning and opted for a different route to go back through Jackson, MS. We wanted to stop in the Fondren District, as neither Jake nor I had been before, but we had been told it had a lot of good restaurants. We went to Babalu Tacos and Tapas, which a lot of friends have recommended to me, and it more than lived up to the recommendations. Their guacamole, which they make at your table(!), was too good! We also stopped in the new H&M (yes, MS now has one, finally), and then we headed back to Oxford. This journey took us quite a bit longer, as we got a bit lost coming through Mobile, then we had to come up to Hattiesburg, and finally across to Jackson. If I was heading to the beach again I'd probably go our first route both ways, but it was definitely nice to stop in Jackson for a lunch and a little shopping stint!
Congratulations to Jakes' mom and her partner (I didn't want to mention their names for privacy reasons)! I had a wonderful weekend, thanks so much for letting me join y'all for the celebrations!
