This will be one of two posts recapping 2012 for me. As I've mentioned on a few previous posts on this blog, music is a very important part of my life. Certain songs, albums and artists remind me of specific places I have been and experiences I've had with friends and family. Therefore recapping some of my musical highlights of the year is always an enjoyable process.
This list comes in alphabetical order, therefore there is no specific ranking to it, although I will share what I profess to be the 'Song of the Year'.
1) Ariel Pink's Haunted Grafitti- Baby (This song is so smooth.)
2) Beach House- Wild (Absolutely loved 'Bloom' and they were fantastic back in May at the Village Underground in Shoreditch. Purchased tickets to see them again at the Lyric this coming April!)
3) Cat Power- Ruin (Although I wasn't blown away by this album, I really liked 'Ruin' and 'Cherokee', the singles she released. This reminds me of the summer, walking to work from the train station with my headphones on.)
4) Chairlift-I Belong In Your Arms (I'm not sure how many times I've played this song, it's just so good. This was in the running for Favourite Song of the Year but it just missed out. The Japanese version of this was also so good, international love! Oh and I absolutely love Caroline Polachek as well!)
5) First Aid Kit- Emmylou (These ladies also did a lovely cover of Paul Simon's 'America'.)
6) Florence and the Machine- Spectrum (Say My Name) (Calvin Harris Remix) (For when I want to "get my Euro on", this was a big summer club tune.)
7) Frank Ocean- Sweet Life (I still love 'Nostalgia, Ultra' but 'Channel Orange' is a great album and I just love Frank. This track is outstanding.)
8) Grizzly Bear- Yet Again (This was a tough call between 'Yet Again' and 'Sleeping Ute'. 'Shields' was such a good album.)
9) Haerts- Wings (This is my FAVOURITE SONG OF THE YEAR. I've played this song so, so much and it doesn't get old. My roommate also caught me twirling around to it in the kitchen the week before I came home. I thought she wasn't in and was feeling in the floaty mood so was having a dance around while washing my dishes! I'm really looking forward to more from these guys in 2013.)
10) Haim- Forever (Off Haim's EP from this summer. I wasn't a fan of their first single 'Send Me Down' but it has been growing on me recently.)
11) Jessie Ware- Wildest Moments (I love 'Devotion', such a good album and Ware is another of my current girl crushes. UK love!)
12) Kanye West, Big Sean, Jay Z- Clique (Also a big fan of 'Mercy'.)
13) Kendrick Lamar- Swimming Pools (Drank) (I wrote about this song on my blog this summer.)
14) Poolside- Why You Wanna (I was loving Poolside's album this summer when I was dreaming of the sunshine.)
15) Solange- Losing You (Up there for my FAVOURITE VIDEO OF THE YEAR. I have dreamt of wearing a vivid colour block pant suit around Oxford, somehow I don't think I'd look quite as good. Solange is just too cool, watch out B!)
16) The Staves- Mexico (I love 'Dead & Born & Grown', these three sisters have such beautiful voices.)
17) Taken By Trees- Dreams (Another just very relaxing, beautiful songs.)
18) The Tallest Man on Earth- Little Brother ('There's No Leaving Now' is such a good album.)
19) Tame Impala- Feels Like We Only Go Backwards (This song is so catchy.)
20) Taylor Swift- Red (I was not a fan of that 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' song but I do love Tay Tay and 'Red' was so catchy.)
So there we have it, my Top 20 Songs of 2012! I originally had a Top 50 list but thought that was a bit much to post on here, so these have made the cut, I hope you enjoy.
